Your Skid Row (with LA Poverty Department), 2014 – 2016
public project
Skid Row, Los Angeles, CA
In conjunction with Los Angeles Poverty Department’s 5th, 6th and 7th Annual Festival for Skid Row Artists, Your Skid Row was a hands-on workshop in which participants created sculptures to represent their ideal urban plan. Spread across an archipelago of wooden boards and hand-crafted from cardboard, paint, and miniature shopping carts, a model for an improved Skid Row emerged. Participants built elements such as a public shower, a pool with a diving board, small garden plots, a school, a multi-purpose building with a spa and a rooftop for dance parties, and a women and children’s center as well as a “safety zone.” Your Skid Row empowered participants to creatively engage with neighborhood improvement.
